Must Love Dogs

Okay, so hold onto your hats folks. This one is a weird one.

I met Phil (and I'm using a pseudo name because honestly, I can't remember his actual name) on OkCupid. I don't remember swiping right, but somehow we matched and starting talking. Maybe I was intoxicated, maybe I was sleepy. The point is, I somehow agreed to a date. Now, he had a dog named Goliath and I was slightly impressed. We agreed to meet up at the dog park, and I brought my ever trusty, ever love of my life, Nanuq. I arrived early, because I needed to see how my baby would interact with other dogs. He did fine. Wandered around a bit and then laid down by my side. We waited for Phil to show up and when he did, folks, I had to hold back the disgusted look on my face. I looked at Nanuq and asked him quietly, "What did we get ourselves into?" He gave me a look as if to ask, "We?? I think you mean you..."
Whatever, I decided to push aside my shallowness and give this guy a chance. Who knows, maybe he could be a sweetheart?

No.
I
Was
Wrong.

He let his dog off his leash and I have never seen such an unruly, unresponsive dog in my life. Perhaps, it's because all the dogs I have been around, the ones I grew up with, were well behaved and listened to all commands in public. This dog would not listen to save his owner's life.
That's not the only issue we had here.
Phil kept spitting both saliva and what I could only assume was mucus.
In front of me.
In front of my dog.
In front of at least 5 other people.

I was disgusted and turned to converse with the other people with dogs, instead of the guy I was on a date.

Call me a bitch.
Call me rude.
Call me whatever you want.

It's all semantics anyway.

We ended leaving the dog park and he asked me to grab lunch. I was hungry and I never turn down a free meal. Besides, maybe he was nervous and I thought about giving him another chance. Nanuq and I climbed into my car and I looked at my confidant.
"What do you think baby?"
He turned his head away from me and sighed.
Not a good sign.
"Okay, fine. Let's at least get free food, yeah?"
He half snorted at me.

When I met Phil at the small hamburger shop, I noticed when he left his car, the windows were barely cracked for his poor dog. I wanted to say something, but a part of me held back.
Fast forward to post date, honestly nothing interesting happened on the lunch date.

He texted me and apologized for the horrible date. I didn't reply because I was sleeping.
An hour later, he texted me again and suggested we go out again. I didn't answer because I was sleeping.
About 2 hour later, he messaged me and said I should "lose him number and I'm sorry for bothering you." I didn't answer because I was driving, and then I was preparing for the class I was about to teach.

I never heard from him again.

Possibly one of the top 5 worst dates I have experienced.

Moral of the story?

Listen to your pets.
They know best.
